Too Personal

Sometimes I think people are over-sharing on Facebook. I know, I over-share on the blog sometimes, but I like to think it’s not too much. (Everyone has different limits though, I guess.)

Anyway, I feel so embarrassed (second-hand embarrassment is a thing, okay!!) when I see someone link an article like “7 Things You Didn’t Know About Female Orgasms” and tag their partner. Come on, people! There’s a private chat for a reason!

Oh, and if you’re angry with someone – that private chat is really neat as well. You really don’t need to write aggressive messages on your wall that are clearly aimed at someone specific. (I’ve only seen this from Americans, is that typical?)

On the other hand, I go crazy when people write something cryptic on their wall, then if people ask about it they won’t tell. If you can’t say something about it, then don’t put it on your wall! (Yes, I’m nosy.)

I nearly died when someone actually started writing about how they were having such great sex with their new boyfriend. Fortunately that’s only ever happened with one person ever, so it’s not a trend that seem to be catching on.

How do you feel about people over-sharing on Facebook? Anything that drives you nuts?

  1. Oh, definitely. I mostly post joke statuses and pictures, and rarely anything serious. There are a lot of people who overshare, and it’s pretty terrible!

    • I don’t post often, and when I do it’s also mainly joke statuses and pictures – most of which are of the niece and nephew. Every now and then I’ll write about what I’m doing (like going out/holiday etc.). The day I start posting too personal information about my love life or similar, I hope someone smacks me around the head! πŸ˜€

  2. I’ve been guilty of over sharing in the past. Fortunately it was a phase from when I first started social media and only had my closest friends on facebook…like 5 people haha! Now days, I’m limited to snarky remarks about my kids. I still have most of my profile visible to only about 20 people πŸ˜‰

Do you think age plays a roll? As I get older, I’m far less interested in sharing every aspect of my life.

    • I think it’s okay to over-share to friends πŸ˜€

I think mental age/maturity probably plays a role. Maybe not physical age so much, because the ages have varied a bit on the ones I’ve seen. The worst “offenders” I’ve seen have definitely been on the younger end of the scale though!

I have a love-hate relationship with Facebook. It’s incredibly frustrating in many ways, but at the same time it’s a great way to keep in touch with far away friends. If it wasn’t for Facebook, I might not even know what your kids look like! Now, in a sense, I get to watch them grow up! (And eventually I’ll get my ass down there so I can meet them in person too!)
